Templates Overview

Templates control the overall layout and structure of your site. Similar to posts and pages, they are edited using the Block Editor. Templates allow you to design reusable layouts for specific areas of the website, such as the homepage, archives, and single post types.

Accessing Templates

  1. Go to the Site Editor: Navigate to Appearance > Editor in the WordPress dashboard.
  2. Select Templates: Click on the Templates option in the left sidebar.
  3. Browse Templates: You’ll see a list of available templates, such as:
    1. Front Page
    2. All Archives
    3. Blog Home
    4. Page

How Templates Work

  • Each template defines the layout for a specific page type.
  • Templates can include blocks for headers, footers, content areas, and navigation.
  • Any changes made to a template will apply globally to all pages or posts using that template.

Editing Templates

  1. Choose a Template:
    1. Select a template from the list (e.g., Front Page).
  2. Edit with Blocks:
    1. The Block Editor will open, displaying the template structure.
    2. Modify header, footer, or content blocks as needed.
  3. Save Changes:
    1. Click Save to apply your updates across the site.

Key Templates

  1. Front Page:
    1. This is the main landing page of your site.
    2. Often includes a hero block, key content sections, and a call-to-action.
  2. Post Media Template:
    1. Used for Media Kit content.
    2. Includes a specialized navigation menu and media-specific blocks.
  3. Page:
    1. Controls the layout for individual pages.

Best Practices for Templates

  • Permissions: Template editing should only be done by administrators.
