Introduction to Block Patterns

Block patterns are pre-designed layouts or groups of blocks in WordPress that allow you to quickly add structured content to a page or template. They are customizable after being added, giving users a flexible starting point for building complex designs.

What Happens When a Pattern is Added?

  • Once you insert a pattern into a page or template, it becomes independent of the original pattern.
  • You can modify any block within the pattern without affecting the original or other instances of the pattern.

Accessing Block Patterns

From a Page or Post:

  1. Open the page or post where you want to use a pattern.
  2. Click the + Block Inserter and navigate to the Patterns Tab.
  3. Browse or search for a specific pattern under categories like “CAS Patterns” or “Banners.”
  4. Drag and drop the pattern onto the canvas or click to insert it.

From a Template:

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Editor > Templates.
  2. Open the desired template or template part (e.g., Header, Footer).
  3. Use the + Block Inserter to access and insert patterns.
  4. Customize the pattern directly within the template editor.

How to Modify Patterns

  1. Select the Block:
    1. Click on any block or group within the inserted pattern.
  2. Edit Content:
    1. Replace text, images, or links to fit your content needs.
  3. Rearrange or Delete Blocks:
    1. Use drag-and-drop functionality or delete blocks as needed.
  4. Style Adjustments:
    1. Use block-specific settings to customize colors, typography, or spacing.

Categories in CAS Patterns

  • Banners: Pre-designed sections for announcements or highlights.
  • Headers & Footers: Standardized designs for the top and bottom of pages.
  • Sections: Content-specific patterns like ticket pricing, floor plans, or attractions.

Best Practices

  • Use patterns to maintain design consistency across the site.
  • Always test your changes on the frontend to ensure proper alignment and responsiveness.
  • For frequently used designs, consider syncing patterns for site-wide updates.
